Soragna (PR)
Ebraismo (storia e cultura)
Inaugurated in 1982 in the rooms adjoining the synagogue and later dedicated to the memory of its founder, Fausto Levi, it comprises various sections. The two rooms to the left of the entrance contain the general historical sector with papal bulls, proclamations and documents from 1555 to 1803, either originals or reproductions, and testimonies of the deportations and of the Holocaust.
Also on the ground floor, a large room recently laid out is dedicated to the documentation of the old Jewish communities of Cortemaggiore, Fiorenzuola and Soragna, while a photographic exhibition illustrates the interiors of the old synagogues in the territory.
On the upper floor are some furnishings from the Cortemaggiore synagogue. In the hallway leading to the synagogue there is an exhibition of religious silverware, books, items used in worship from the 18th to the 19th century. The visit also includes the striking synagogue room inaugurated in 1855: in neo-classical style, it has stucco decorations by Antonio Rusca and frescoes by Giuseppe Levi; the matroneum is interesting, enclosed by finely wrought metal gratings.
